This CCD image was taken on 1996 February 24, using a 0.36-m Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope. A V filter was used and the exposure time was 300 seconds.
Discovered by Victoria and Robert Jedicke (Lunar and Planetary Laboratory) on 1996 January 14.3 with the 0.9-m Spacewatch telescope at Kitt Peak. The comet's total magnitude was determined as 17.0, while a tail extended 6 arc minutes towards PA 290 degrees.
Short-period nature was reported by Brian G. Marsden on January 22, 1996. Using 80 positions reported during the period of 1996 January 14 to 21, Marsden gave the perihelion date as 1995 October 19.8, the perihelion distance as 4.14 AU, and the orbital period as 17.88 years.
