Discovery

Kometnyj Tsirkulyar No. 227 (1978 May 15) announced the discovery by R. Nazvlishvili and V. Oshchepkov (Abastumani Astrophysical Observatory, Georgia) of a "cometary image" on photographic plates obtained on 1975 October 5.82 and October 6.02 using the 70-cm Meniscas telescope. The plates were originally taken in a search for flare stars. The magnitude was given as 13-14 and the object was described as diffuse. The daily motion derived from the two positions was only a few arc seconds.

Positions

Analysis

The position of the object was only about 3.7° away from the predicted position by N. A. Belyaev for the lost comet 25D/Neujmin 2; however, based on the brightness, it was judged that they were not the same objects. It seems possible that this very slow moving "comet" might have been an internal reflection from a star in the Pleiades.
