Discovery

     IAU Circular No. 3317 (1978 Dec. 22) announced the discovery by R. M. West (European Southern Observatory) of a probable comet trail on a single plate obtained by H.-E. Schuster on 1978 November 30. The magnitude was given as 18 and a tail extended about 1 arc minute toward the west-northwest.

     With only one photographic plate available, the comet's motion of about 8' per day could not be pinned down as to the exact direction it was heading.
